Thank you for taking a look through the doorway of Calvary United Methodist Church, and into the presence of Jesus Christ. The people you see are witnesses that Jesus is alive, living in and among us.

We make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. These disciples partner with other congregations, 12-step groups, and CROS Ministries. Together we fellowship with and serve over a thousand neighbors who come to our campus each week for the life we offer in the name of the Lord. We also partner with the United Methodist Church, calling people to serve Christ and transform the world through global ministry that begins right here in Palm Beach County.

GREETINGS from PASTOR CHRIS

What’s your story? What brings you to Lake Worth and Calvary? Here’s a little about my faith journey. I’d like to get toknow you better, so please be sure to reply.My family comes from a variety of faith traditions. At Calvary you’ll find that God’s family tree has many branches. If you’re like me, you’ll find yourself enriched by listening and learning from them all. But I am especially drawn to the story of John Wesley’s heart strangely warmed; and his small groups of believers whose hearts warm to knowing Jesus while honestly getting to know one another. I am struck by Wesley’s passion to make heaven visible by mobilizing God’s love in people who thrive on improving the living conditions of neighbors, including the poor.My home town burned when Martin King was shot down. Our mayor called for volunteers to come listen to the inner-city children – then teach the children how to write and read their own stories. That call opened my eyes and changed my life.I took a mission trip to the wild Northeast Kingdom of Vermont to help a struggling church that was only open in summer. The people were United Methodists. That summer they grew in grace and numbers. When I challenged them to remain open year-round, they challenged me to stay as their pastor. They made me want to know more about John Wesley’s ways. I’m glad to be part of global, connectional ministry, making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. I love to hear people tell how God’s story is becoming their story, using volunteer service, music, and drama to bond with other believers. Their vision and energy make Jesus’ story vibrant, compelling, and fun. People of all ages are touched and moved as they experience Jesus come to life, and make God’s story their story, too. Along the way, story-teller folk like these have partnered with me to:- Revive a dying church.- Start a new congregation.- Take mission trips to Caribbean countries.- Go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land.- Work for racial justice and harmony.- Organize walks raising over $100K for local and global hunger relief.- Lead youth on wilderness canoe camps.- Host Florida’s largest portion of the Names Project Quilt on World AIDS Day. - Hold Walk to Emmaus weekend retreats.- Sponsor city-wide concert events, dramas, and a Billy Graham crusade.- Turn the Christmas story into a fun indoor- outdoor inter-active Bethlehem drama.- Kayak to clean Lake Worth’s Snook Islands and paddle like crazy to win the “Grunge Cup” at Lake Worth’s 4th of July Great American Raft Race.My wife, Amy, and I absolutely love children. We took a number of years off from pastoral ministry to serve as houseparents in Christian residential programs for boys and their parents. Many of these troubled boys were set free from drugs, advanced several grade levels in school, and were reunitied with their families. INTENTIONAL DISCIPLING

Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World! That’s Calvary’s mission. During our Worship Celebration you’ll be invited to our Fellowship Coffee Hour. That’s where we get to know one another better. From there you’ll be invited to our weekly Love Feast where we share our faith along with a meal. Those who like may stay to fellowship in God’s Word and experience God’s Spirit in prayer. We offer other small groups to encourage one another to grow up into Christ and make a difference in God’s world. The Way Café is our signature outreach ministry. Everyone is welcome any Saturday afternoon to receive a complete meal as a free expression of God’s love. The emphasis is on fellowship and nutrition, not just food. Volunteers sign in at 2:30pm. They hold a brief devotional and organizational meeting before doors open at 3 o’clock. Opening devotions are then offered to greet and encourage those who attend. This includes an invitation to Christian discipleship, a welcome to visit the congregations on our campus, and a request for help with clean-up.The Way Café volunteers have served over 27,000 meals. More than $40,000 has been donated in addition to the building, equipment, utilities, and maintenance provided by Calvary UMC. Prayer for The Way Café:Dear Lord, we celebrate Your vision and inspiration to love all people as Christ has loved us. Bless all of our neighbors according to their special needs. Thank You for all who have responded and sacrificed to provide hospitality and front-line urban ministry to our Lake Worth neighbors in Your name. Thank you for all who respond in the future as we invite them to help us make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
